I hear you, Mateo D. I didn’t know Lennon’s whole story and appreciate you bringing it to my attention. Since the theme of my poem was to find temporary peace by leaving the current, and sometimes disturbing, context of our daily lives, I need to think about whether I would have chosen differently if we’d talked first.
In any case, I can honestly say my intent was to celebrate the song and its use as a jumping-off point to find the peace that obviously Lennon didn’t have and possibly never found — except temporarily through his writing. I would never defend the actions that hurt others, but he has much company on the dark side of creativity.
