Allan, its the syphilis. Late syphilis develops in about one third of untreated people years to decades after the initial infection. Specifically, neurosyphilis (which affects the brain) occurs in about 5% of all people with untreated syphilis. Symptoms include difficulty concentrating and remembering things, irritability, confusion, delusions of grandeur, and erectile dysfunction (ED).
