My final one-line poem is inspired by Aeishwarya Baviskar’s poem and prompt, “Head,” and, of course, the announcment of the end of the One Line project on Chalkboard. On behalf of the Chalkboard editorial team, please accept our thanks for your engagement with, and loyalty to, Chalkboard. This isn’t goodbye; this is “until next time!”

And now, Carrie Underwood sings “Good in Goodbye

Sir, your response I am pleased to receive
to the offer I thought we’d discussed.
I’m not sure we’re on the same page at this point.
Your double entendres have left me nonplussed.

Yes, I did write that I’d like to be friends.
I’ve heard you’re a man a woman can trust.
But if I am reading your letter correctly,
friends with benefits, for you, is a must.

If this is true, I will need to know more.
First of all, is my assessment unjust?
Please be forthright, there’s no right or wrong here. …

One Line Poetry Prompt for May 12, 2021

I’m blessed, right?
Surrounded by
caring friends,
loving family.
Why am I exhausted?

Don’t get me wrong.
I love being with people
because I hate
being alone
with my thoughts.

Author’s Note: May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Trying to tell the difference between what expected behaviors are and what might be the signs of a mental illness isn’t always easy. There’s no easy test that can let someone know if there is mental illness or if actions and thoughts might be typical behaviors of a person or the result of a physical illness.

Does not include Mexico’s Independence Day

Saluting the occasion
of France’s invasion
that Mexico resisted —
most Cinco de missed it?
Not — you’re thinking,
Margarita drinking?
Corona pub crawls?
building walls?
David beat Goliath.
Celebrating the triumph!

Author’s Note: Contrary to popular belief, Cinco de Mayo doesn’t commemorate Mexico’s Independence Day. May 5 marks the Mexican army’s victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War in 1862. Mexico’s Independence Day is celebrated on September 16. Inspired by Laura Sheridan’s “Happy Birthday, Will

Remembering William Shakespeare’s birthday,
Ms. Sheridan wrote a beautiful poem.
She praised the plays the playwright had penned.
With these fun facts, you’ll feel like you know him.

Will was eighteen; Anne was twenty-six.
With child was Hathaway when they were wed.
Anne birthed their daughter, followed by twins.
Will’s will left Anne his “second-best bed.”

Will mastered reading, writing and Latin.
His parents were likely illiterate.
His children, too, missed out on schooling.
“To be” was “not to be” — not considerate.

Nobody knows what Will did between
Fifteen-eighty-five and fifteen-ninety-two.
There’s still speculation ’bout what he didn’t. …

Farah,

Your poem is so charming.

It has my heart warming.

Rhymes that I should have heard

left me scratching my beard.

Rhyming I'd normally choose,

but your piece gave me a goose.

Rhymes or not, I'll live with both,

drawn to your flame, like a moth.

So what’s a gar? And why would you want to lick it?

This handsome alligator gar is distinct from other gars by having a heavier and broader body, a short broad snout, and numerous large canine-like teeth usually in a double row on upper jaw. (Image Source)

I’ll bet that you didn’t know the gar is celebrated,
or this day’s been set aside especially for gar licking.
Candidly, I will admit I’m taken back as you are.
Think this is an instance of the internet bait clicking!

Probably my picture of that alligator gar
suggests licking this guy could be hazardous to you.
Perhaps you could sneak-up on him, lick him, then retreat,
but until you’re confident, please stay in your canoe.

Why not skip the licking ’cause the gar objects to foreplay.
Eating gar much better, tastes like gator, finger lickin’.
Some say it’s a myth, but there’s…
